Philips Norelco SpeedXL 8240XL Shaving Review

Great new mid-line Philips Norelco shaver bests shave of top of the line from a few years ago
Before obtaining this Philips Norelco Speed-XL 8240 (through a promotion) I had been using the Philips Spectra 8890XL shaver (the so-called "James Bond" shaver), which was the top of the Philips line a few years ago, which at the time was widely reviewed as the best available electric shaver, and which retailed for around $200. I had doubts that this shaver, which retails for about half that, could best the one I already had.
In terms of shave, I was wrong. This 8240XL (which is identical is shave to sister models 8250XL and 8251XL) is a TERRIFIC shaver. With this new shaver, I can shave much more quickly, and it handles the hard to shave areas (e.g. my neck) with more aplomb. In addition, it’s a lot quieter than my old shaver, and it’s lighter!
Outside of the shaving ability, this is a somewhat bare bones model. That means no shaving height adjustment, no digital readout of battery life remaining (just a light which lights only when you’re charging and blinks when the charge is done), and no stand. But the shaver itself is excellent. What a surprise.
Now I’m left in the strange position of considering relegating my old expensive Spectra to my travel kit!

Finally – Smooth Skin Again
I have been trying out new razors, getting a charge out of all the different designs that have been coming out, and have gotten a lot of experience along the way. Amongst the types I have tried are : The tri-heads with and without foaming action, the newer heads that set like they are on a platform, and a few different types of clippers. Out of all the razors I have tried I like this one the best, and the reason for that is because I (1) like the mixture of old and new, (2) like the length of the long-hair trimmer, and (3) like the way the extra pivot works on this razor. It feels like an old friend, but with a better smile.
There are not really any downsides on the razor that are glaring to me, so I’ll list the positives I have noticed. First, there is a new pivot that allows the head to move forward and backward and does not make the head stationary. That means that more ground is covered and a better shave is given. A second thing I like is that the length of the long-hair trimmer has not changed. On many of the newer models, the trimmer has been shortened. This leads to a trimmer that is harder to see, one that doesn’t do as much work, and one that can break easier. So, the staying with the same build is a good thing. Next, the charge the item carries is long-lasting, making it a great tool to travel with. I have a problem with forgetting my cord, I already did that once with this model, and it did not matter. I was away for a week and still I got a good shave. And, lastly, it is does not throw too much glam t you and try to make something shiny to hide flaws in the design. As I said before, it is an old design but with some newer additions to make shaving better.
If you want a good shave and need something new, you should try out this razor. It has been tough, has been reliable, and has been the one razor I have liked after the newness has worn away. That says a lot about something: when the newness of something becomes day-to-day, what is it, really? For this product I would have to say "a little over five stars in my book."

"Use this razor for its intended household use as described in the manual"
The new Philips Norelco (formerly known as just Norelco) 8240 comes to you in a box with a window that allows the shaver to be seen within its clear plastic packaging. You will need a sharp pair of scissors and/or a Rambo-style Bowie knife to hack thru this hard plastic covering and remove the shaver. Use extreme caution when doing so. Once you’ve defeated the packaging, you will find the sleek, gunmetal gray shaver; a protective cap; a small cleaning brush; a curly AC power cord; English/Spanish instruction booklet and a basic black zippered nylon case.
The manual says you should plug the shaver in and let it charge for a full 12 hours before using it for the first time. The light on mine started blinking within the first hour, but I left it plugged in overnight anyway. When I tried the 8240 out the next morning, I was amazed at how quiet it is. My old Braun buzzes like a lawnmower, but this thing just whispers! The Norelco will supposedly go for up to 17 shaves before it needs recharging, and you’re not supposed to recharge it until the battery is nearly depleted. Note that this model lacks the LOW BATTERY indicator light available on the 8250 and 8251 models.
The overall design of this razor is quite impressive. The three shaver heads rock all around individually and the entire head assembly pivots on side bolts. This allows the cutters to hug your face while you shave for better results. Best of all, there’s a latch on the front that allows the hinged top to be popped open for easy cleaning. After shaving, you just push this button and run hot water inside the hair collection chamber and under the blades. Then you just leave it open to air dry. On the back of the 8240 is the standard spring release trimmer for mustaches and sideburns.
You can try the Philips Norelco 8240 risk-free for 45 days. If you’re not fully satisfied after using this shaver exclusively for three weeks, you can send it back to Philips Norelco for a refund–but it must be shipped prepaid by insured mail. So you really have nothing to lose but the cost of shipping. As far as I’m concerned, this is the best electric razor I’ve ever used. But, if you’ve got the extra cash, you might want to go for the higher grade 8250 or 8251 model.
"WARNING: Close supervision is necessary when this razor is used by children."

Panasonic ES8103S Rechargeable Shaving Review

IF YOU HAVE SENSITIVE SKIN BUY IT!!
I am 63 and my skin is a lot more tender and subject to cuts than when I was younger. I have been using electric razors off and on for about forty years – Primarily Norelco but also Remington, Braun and Toshiba. During those forty years I did not notice any significant change in the quality of the shave or the pulling, picking and burning that came from shaving certain facial sections over and over again. Panasonic takes electric shavers to a level that is comparable to a blade (which still gives the closest shave) without the mess and pain. I was not sure it was working until I felt the smoothness of the shave. Shaving is much quicker because there are few do overs and it does not irritate sensitive skin. A remarkable and greatly needed advance in electric shavers.

Great Shaver
When my old Panasonic needed new blades and foil, I decided to shop for a new shaver. The motor after so many years of cutting my "wire beard" sounded like it was laboring. I thought I was tired of wet shaving and bought a top of the line Braun – it’s for baby beards! Also, the Braun will not move over your skin if it is oily or micro-moist from a warm bathroom, even with shaving powder. It was returned. This ES8103S [[ASIN:B001DNE3KQ Panasonic ES8103S Pro-Curve Wet/Dry Rechargeable Linear Pivot Action Shaving System, Silver] shaver cuts my tough beard like it was fuzz, saving much time and my face! I don’t have to push it hard against my face to get a close shave and it gets all the hard to shave face and neck areas.

Close, Smooth Shave
Best feature of Panasonic ES8103S Rechargeable Shaving is the close, pain-free, smooth shave. I would say 99% as smooth as razor, the difference is nominal (Can’t tell the difference visually). I have a thick, tough beard and the Panasonic breezes through in very few passes. I get even better results on shaving the mustache, compared with my razor. The neck area is where the shaver has some difficultly, although I think it may be because the shaving cream has a tendency to wash off in the shower. After a second application of cream I can get as close. No razor burn, no in-grown hairs (I do get these with razors). It takes a few extra minutes to complete the shave compared to razor (maybe 7-8 min vs. 5-6 min). All in all I am pleased with the experience and do not plan to move back to razor.

Product Description

Best Price Panasonic ES7103K Shaver The Pro-Curve Triple Blade Pivot Shaver, offers outstanding shaving features. Two foils and a center slit blade all float independently, while it’s pivoting head feature rocks up and down, and back and forth, allowing the blades to form and follow every contour of your face for a more soothing shave. This razor delivers maximum comfort and the support you need for a clean, close shave. Panasonic also delivers the sharpest blades for precise and accurate shaving. While conventional shavers offer a range of 45- to 90-degree blades, the Pro-Curve comes with the sharpest blade angle at 30-degrees — great for precision cutting. With a motor that spins at 10,000 revolutions per minute (RPM), this shaver cuts through thick and thin while providing optimal comfort. Like all Panasonic shavers this unit has wet/dry technology, so it is fully immersible under water. This razor can be used with lather in the convenience of your shower, or on the go for a quick trim. When done just simply rinse under water. A Pop up trimmer is accessible with the push of a finger for grooming moustaches and sideburns. The LCD Battery Monitor lets you know how much charge is remaining at all times. Moreover, with its automatic international dual voltage conversion feature, this razor will fulfill shaving needs here and abroad. To properly shave with the Pro-Curve, start out with gentle pressure on the face. It is important to note that the skin and beard require about 30 days to adjust to any new shaving method. Once the skin becomes used to the shaver, increased pressure may be applied to the face, but remember that shaving should never be painful. To maintain superior cutting performance, replace the outer foil at least once a year and the inner blade once every two years.

Panasonic ES7103K Shaver Review

Vey close shave for an Panasonic ES7103K Shaver
I don’t think there is a perfect electric shaver out there, but this is very close. This is my 3rd electric shavers I owned. My first electric shaver was a foil shaver from Braun and which did it job fine. After seeing all the Norelco’s lift and cut commercial, I finally got the Norelco Spectra 8825 XL and finally replaced it with a Panasonic brand. I will compare this barebones Panasonic Es 7103k with the other models I used.
Closet shave:
I will have to give Panasonic ES7103K Shaver to the Panasonic by a narrow margin then Braun at 2 and Norelco in 3rd. Before I got this model, I tried my brother Panasonic and actually got a cut. Wow, this electric shaver is the closest thing to a Bic razor. I have not yet gotten any cut or bleeding from this newer model, but my skin feels tender and definitely need some lotion afterward. The blade speed is 10k rpm compare to Braun at 7-8k rpm. Higher end Panasonic shavers go up to 13k rpm. I considered the Braun average and Norelco have trouble with thicker hair around the moustache area. All three does evenly in the bread part of the face with a long trimmer on the first wave and switching back to the main shaver for the softer cut. Hairs under the neck needs a first past with a long trimmer on the Braun and Norelco, but not necessary for the Panasonic, which seem to chop almost all areas evenly without the long hair trimmer.
Smooth shave:
Norelco or Panasonic, then Braun. While this model takes off my face top skin layer like no other electric razors out there, my skin does feels fresh after I give it some aftershave lotion. Norelco design hands down is the easiest on the face. No aftershave lotion at all. The triple rotating blades on the Spectra, while doesn’t cut as close, definitely fits my face contour better creating an even cut. Braun (older model) definitely has a close shave but its foil/coil (not the current triple heads models) missed some hair under the neck and mustache and need more passes than both the Norelco and Panasonic.
Power:
While this is not the most powerful Panasonic model out there at 10k rpm, it definitely feels more powerful then Braun or Norelco. Granted the Norelco design is a little different. Norelco is the quietest follow by Braun. This model is also as noisily as my father Remington and tad under the decibel of some hair trimmer.
Construction:
I like Panasonic, Norelco and Braun design and construction for varies reason, the Remington design is another story. On the outside all three are equally solid. Under the blade, Panasonic looks the sturdiest. Its coils looks thicker then the Braun. I am not sure why all the plastic parts under the Spectra blade have never been broken all these years, but they still work fine. I got to say this flush on design and construction for all three bases on personal preferences.
Features:
All three were easily to wash. All three have swivel blade heads. Norelco has the best contour to face. Braun and Panasonic foil head pivot in different way. Panasonic head pivot side to side, horizontally, that doesn’t lose power from the base motor. Braun head pivot vertically closer to the face, but comparably to a non-pivot head, it seem to lost power from the base motor in the design. Both Braun and Panasonic coils going up and down where this Panasonic triple blades move up and down independently. I am not sure if the 30 degree blade or its power is the reason why the Panasonic get the closet shave. The digital screen shows how much the battery is left, but is always on. The only drawback I see in this design is the rechargeable batteries. Only Norelco works both as a recharge and cord plug in. The older Braun and Panasonic work on a charge only and cannot plug and play. The Braun batteries died and never worked again, I hope this won’t haven to the Panasonic. The newer Braun models have fixed this feature.Shave wet is a nice feature also.
Overall the closet shave for a barebones unit that price is right. Just wished it had the plug and play feature.

Excellent Performance at a Value Price!
Bought Panasonic ES7103K Shaver due to its low price and decent spec’s. When it arrived I figure I’d get a few months worth of usage and off to the garbage. I had gotten really tired of my older Remington Rotary leaving my face with razor burn and I considered a Foil Shaver this time might help? Well, the day I first used it I was left in complete amazement, it was actually a pleasure to shave and not have any irritation on my neck or the red blotches that accompanied my former shaves. This Electric Shaver has the Cutting Blade at a 30 degree angle, and a speed of 10K RPM which compare to other shaves is not a speed racer yet this formula seem to be the ticket!. It is also a wet/dry shaver, meaning it could be used while in the shower. I am wiling to venture and say that the slower speed and the angle of the blades are the contributing factor in my complete satisfaction with this Panasonic Shaver. The shaves are really close and although no electric shaver will completely match a razor blades shave, it does a fantastic job good enough to step outside looking clean shaven and fresh, you’ll find yourself shaving so much more that the wife will start to wonder what’s going on? I’ve even planned on purchasing a second unit as a backup since the price is right and it would be a better investment then purchasing the foil and blade replacement. Lets face it, (pun intended) when you look good you’ll actually start feeling good specially when the feedback form your viewers is positive due to your representation. You gonna Love it!

Excellent price excellent shave
I have used electric shavers for 25 years. Over the course of that time I’ve tried rotary, Braun and others. I converted to Panasonic and wet shaving a few years ago. I love the shaves I get from the wet electric. The Panasonic Linnear motors are great, but the real downer is that Panasonic makes it very difficult to change the batteries once they die out – which for me, even if I let them drain out to completely dead, is about 1.5 years (not long enough at all!). This design is completely bad for the environment – I wonder how long it will be before electric shavers go the route of cordless phones and have replaceable batteries. Since I got tired of buying $90-$100 shavers every 1.5 years, I purchsed this model which is at the low end and isn’t a Linnear motor (Linnear is 13K RPM vs. this model which is like 10K RPM), in part as a means of protesting their anti-environmental design. The shave isn’t quite as close or easy as a Linnear but it’s easily 90% the quality for 40% less cost…and so far, the battery seems to be trending to last longer than the last Panasonic Linnear I bought which suggests that the batteries might be the same while the Linnear might require higher power to operate.

Remington MS2-390 Microscreen Rechargeable Shaver Review

"An Excellent Shaver and "A BEST BUY" to boot"
Have used this razor since Jan.’08 and it has been performing flawlessly since then. The June ‘08 issue of a leading Consumer Magazine has just rated this MS2-390 a "Best Buy", second only to the Braun 360 at $170.
After the initial 2 or 3 charge/discharge cycles to improve battery memory, it provides me with over 20 three minute shaves every morning, which more than lives up to the advertised 60 minute run time. This will vary, depending how you choose to keep this unit charged. I run it down completely and use the cord to finish up if the batteries run out before I finish. Then recharge it for 24 hours for the next cycle. The red low charge light will come on about half way through and the speed will slow down perceptively during the last half of the cycle, but will still shave until batteries are fully discharged. If you use the quick charge feature, at least once a year fully discharge and then recharge 24 hours to prolong battery life. Be sure to brush the cutters and blow off the screens after every shave.(I do not recommend using water to flush out razor cutters.) Do not expect too much from the trimmer except to get the occasional whisker that escapes the daily shave or to trim the sideburns. It is too bulky to be of any further use. After all, this is a razor to shave whiskers with and not for haircuts and trims. This Remington should provide many years of use as did my previous one. Even after the batteries are fully depleted, this razor will still work via the plug-in cord.

Really great razor
I have now used the razor for about 3 weeks and am very satisfied with it. I bought a Braun first, and stopped using it after about two weeks, because of poor workmanship and poor shaves. I then ordered this razor and wish I had gotten it to begin with. I think this is probably the best razor I have owned in over 55 years of shaving (I am 72 years old).

Very Pleased
I’ve purchased many Remington MS2-390 Microscreen Rechargeable Shaver products over the years, so I’m familiar with the brand and quality. This shaver is no exception. If you want bells and whistles…keep looking. I wanted a basic, nothing fancy, twin bladed shaver with trimmer and that’s what I got. It does the job without a lot of fuss and a good price. This would make a great ‘first shaver’ for a young fella.

Apple’s Tablet: The Next iPod… Or The Next Newton?

Rumors that Apple is preparing to introduce a tablet device have been around for almost as long as there were rumors that it would introduce a cell phone (and look how that turned out). This week, no less a bastion of salmon-colored credibility than the Financial Times exclaimed that “Apple is racing to offer a portable tablet-sized computer in time for the Christmas shopping season,” so perhaps this year Santa will finally make those rumors a reality. I worry, however, that Apple might not be quite as successful as it’s been with the iPod and iPhone – I’m sure they’ll make a beautiful device, but what if consumers just don’t care?

Device manufacturers (both incumbents in the computer industry and niche players) have been toying with the “tablet” category and others like it for years, but the segment remains sparsely populated and sales have never been very high. So-called “Ultra-Mobile PCs” were aimed at roughly the product category Apple appears to be targeting (something shoehorned in between a laptop and a portable media player like an iPod), and the category received substantial investment from Microsoft through its Origami platform, but the products haven’t gained any traction. The high prices and usability problems that have plagued these devices have undoubtedly been an obstacle, but I think misalignment with consumers’ jobs-to-be-done is an issue here as well.

What jobs would a tablet device do better than existing devices? If I want to do some relatively “light” computing on the go (listening to music, doing e-mail, reading the news, surfing the Internet), Apple will gladly sell me an iPhone 3GS, which has the added advantages over a tablet of being able to make calls and fit in my pocket. Of course, Apple’s tablet will probably be more capable than the iPhone, but it will likely be big enough that it will have to compete with even more capable devices. To take a tablet device with me everywhere I’d need to bring something to carry it in, and once I do that a tablet device isn’t a whole lot more portable than a netbook – and those are cheaper than Apple’s tablet will probably be and have full QWERTY keyboards (which Apple’s tablet might not).

Of course, in comparing a still-theoretical device to other devices that seem roughly similar to it, I may be overlooking other jobs Apple’s tablet might address – Wired, for instance, suggests it might compete with Amazon’s Kindle 6” and Kindle DX 7” to replace books. There again, however, I am skeptical; not only does Amazon have a substantial head start in understanding the space, attracting consumers, and establishing relationships with publishers, but its device’s e-ink display (which Apple’s tablet would probably not emulate) simply makes for more comfortable reading than traditional LCD screens. Furthermore, especially since the recent ironic Orwell kerfuffle, consumer skepticism of “e-readers” remains high.

All that having been said, it’s impossible to offer really reliable predictions about the success or failure of a device no one knows much about, and Apple certainly has a mixed track record when it comes to novel innovative products (think MacBook Air, iPod, and iPhone vs. Newton and G4 Cube). Nevertheless, it seems to me at this point that the tablet form factor just isn’t a very good fit with consumers’ jobs; we’ll have to wait and see if Apple surprises us.

The name Aamir Khan rings just one word in the head- Perfection. Same is the case for 3 Idiots! With names like Rajkumar Hirani, Aaamir Khan and Shantanu Moitro, a Hindi movie just doesn’t ask for anything more. Being the last Bollywood release of the year, (provided it has big names and big in every sense) the movie arouses maximum curiosity. It’s a music filled with 3 main element- Fun, Friends and Love, the kind of music that appeals to people of all ages. It’s a feel good music with juvenile melodies which makes you go back to the fun college times.

The music only proves that there is no doubt, this is another blockbuster in the making!

3 Idiots is a good quality album that has two super strong tracks – ‘Aal Izz Well’ and ‘Jaane Nahin Denge Tujhe’. Both are poles apart though because while former is for mass audiences, latter should find a perfect placement in the film’s narrative. ‘Zoobi Doobi’ is nice while ‘Behti Hawa’ and ‘Give Me Some Sunshine’ would be known more after the film’s release. –platform47.com

SureFire E2DL-BK 200 Lumens : Compact (pocket sized), dual-output LED flashlight designed for self-defense and personal protection. The SureFire E2DL-BK 200 Lumens Defender® features a solid-state, two-stage light emitting diode that generates six times the output of a typical two-D-cell flashlight at its high setting and five lumens of useful light (enough to read a map or negotiate a dark path) on low. And should 200 lumens of blinding light not be enough to convince an aggressor to back off, SureFire E2DL-BK 200 Lumens crenellated Strike Bezel® and scalloped tailcap provide two sets of hard-anodized aluminum "teeth" as a last line of defense. Two useful output levels, a long runtime, a hard-anodized durable exterior, compact size, and enhanced personal protection capabilities make this flashlight a great everyday-carry option. Especially for those looking for a self-defense light with a bit more of a bite.

SureFire E2D LED Defender Flashlight Max-200 Lumens E2DL-BK Review

Terrific Light, as usual, from Surefire : If you are new to high-powered flashlights, Surefire is the benchmark. This ain’t no Maglite. Made in USA, lifetime warranty with incredible customer service, unequaled build quality, and state of the art LED’s. This light has two beams. One click gives you a very focused beam with amazing power – 120 Lumens. Click again and the lower powered beam is still plenty strong and will probably be what you use more often. I really recommend the dual stage version of this model. It’s great to have a high powered beam when you need it, but walking the dog or searching for something in a tent doesn’t need 120 lumens – 5 is fine. Battery life is great.
If spending this much money on a flashlight seems absurd, there are other options at your disposal that are just as strong, but are made in China and don’t come with the same warranty. These include Fenix – I bought a P30D on Amazon for 65 dollars for a friend. That Fenix light doesn’t have the same build quality as my Surefires, but has a similar beam and I would rate light output somewhere between my L5 (100 Lumen) and this SureFire E2DL-BK 200 Lumens (120 Lumen). I would go with Surefire any day for the peace of mind that if I drop it in a river, it’s going to work just fine (waterproof to "33 feet" – at least), and the knowledge that it was made in the States.
Also, beware of LUMEN hype. Other manufacturers- such as Fenix- make claims about light output that I have found to be around double of what Surefire rates. So a 220 lumen Fenix P30D seems to my eye to be around a 110 lumen Surefire. I didn’t test scientifically but I trust my eyes and it was definitely weaker than this 120 Lumen E2DL. Surefire is extremely conservative about their claims, which is in line with their stellar reputation. Also, make sure whatever flashlight you’re buying is equipped with the latest LED’s, as technology is changing quickly and an updated light may have significantly better battery life than previous LED models. Call or e-mail Surefire and ask- they will be straight with you. As of January ‘09, this particular light has the latest CREE LED and is definitely state of the art. Also sorry Amazon, but Batteryjunction.com ships Surefires for free with a bunch of free extra batteries. Enjoy!

Awesome LED illumination : SureFire E2DL-BK 200 Lumens has become my second Surefire flashlight in 13 years. Ironically, Surefire seems to make such a dependable, durable, and well-designed piece of equipment that I can not be the frequent customer I should be. Prior to this I owned a 9N flashlight, but the bulb assembly finally broke and can not be replaced.
Enter the E2D LED.
I was first impressed with the smallness of this flashlight. It fits very nicely into my hand, and equally so in a pocket. It feels very light. The double-tap activation switch works well, and I believe it to be a great bit of practical design. I do not miss the "twist" type of activation switch from my previous Surefire. Switching from High to Low power on the E2D LED does take a bit of practice, but once you get your timing down, it’s not a consideration.
The full-power brightness of this light is awe-inspiring. I still feel almost blinded when initially firing this light up. I sometimes squint to overcome it. Seriously. The lower lumen setting is more than adequate for most night-work, but I can see the effect of shining the full-power light into someone’s eyes. The light cast by this flashlight is smooth, even, and far-reaching.
The ruggedness of the flashlight is good. The lens is well protected and sturdy, and the light has yet to fail due to mechanical defect. I’ve had it for roughly 6 months now, and it has become an almost daily-use tool. Incidentally, I am still on the first set of batteries.
My only gripe with the flashlight is that the tail-cap prevents "flat-thumbing" the activation switch. It’s hard to describe, but you have to almost reach your thumb over the tail cap wall, and point inwards ever so slightly to activate the switch. For momentary activation it’s no problem, but to click the light on permanently takes some finesse. SureFire E2DL-BK 200 Lumens is by no means a problem overall, but I figure I have to find some flaws, right?
In the end, this flashlight is well worth the initial high cost. If it lasts the 13 years that my 9N did, I will consider the cost to be a steal, actually. The powerful brightness of the flashlight, the ergonomic feel, and the fact that it has an incredibly technical (almost Star Wars) like look makes this the best flashlight I’ve owned.
This is one mean piece of equipment, and will surely last through some high abuse.

Provides the same high quality sound and features as the FINIS SwiMP3 v2 Waterproof MP3 player with an upgraded processor and memory (1 GB). Unlike standard waterproof MP3 players–which transmit sound through the air or water and produce only a muffled noise when submerged–the FINIS SwiMP3 v2 Waterproof MP3 player 1G relies on your bones to conduct the sound. This direct transfer of sound vibrations from the cheekbone to the inner ear produces exceptional sound clarity, so you can listen to all of your favorite tunes while working out or taking a leisurely swim. And you needn’t worry about damaging your hearing, as bone conduction hearing is a safe, well-established hearing mechanism in humans. Rather, this is the first time an audio company has leveraged the technology to enhance the experience of swimmers, tri-athletes, surfers, synchronized swimmers, and anyone else involved in general water activities.

FINIS SwiMP3.1G Waterproof MP3 Player Review

Great product, great service : I received FINIS SwiMP3 v2 Waterproof MP3 player for my birthday and had some issues with scratchy sound in one of the speakers when I moved my head rapidly – but was still amazed how well the sound would come through despite swimming fast, doing flip turns, etc. I am a former collegiate swimmer and currently swim in a master’s program. I called FINIS and they were very courteous and provided a return authorization – within 5 days I had a brand new unit – and they upgraded it to the 1 GB version! There are no issues with the newer version – the volume controls work more smoothly and the sound is very good.
Swimming with the SwiMP3 is very easy – it does not move or flap against your face when pushing off the wall during a flip turn – it is very low profile, but I have not tried diving from starting blocks yet. When not in the water, the sound seems like it would be inadequate, but once you are in the water, the sound just comes alive – not BOSE quality, but I am thrilled with this device and what I can hear while swimming. The device is easy to pause between sets if desired, but you can easily converse and hear others without turning the volume down or pausing. Button placement is easy to acclimate to without having to remove your goggles to adjust volume, change songs, etc.
Using the device with my laptop is a breeze – wish the USB cover had a tether – could be easy to lose, but not a big issue;easy to drag and drop songs – have not tried it with i-tunes and have not used the FINIS software.
I love this player – have recommended it (1 GB version) to many of my friends – this device is specialized for in water use – it is not meant to be a music storage device, and would not be good for everyday use out of the pool – even so, it is well worth the price to load up some tunes to make those laps go by which I was never good at counting anyway.
